Dr. Helen Harris

Dr. Harris

Dr. Helen fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian in 1994 when she graduated from U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. After practicing in Sacramento for 2 years, Dr. Helen returned home to her beloved central coast in 1996 where she has cared for small animal patients ever since.

Through the years, Dr. Helen has treated a variety of species including dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and small mammals. She has special interests in pathology, cytology (looking at cells under the microscope), internal medicine, and exotic animal care. Dr. Helen has also worked with wildlife rehabilitation groups in the treatment of sick and injured local wildlife. Wanting to learn more about wildlife conservation inspired her to complete a veterinary certification program in Conservation Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. She has donated to Mission Rabies, an organization that vaccinates dogs against rabies in endemic areas around the globe , and hopes to join one of their volunteer missions in the near future. Dr. Helen has always strived to offer the best treatment options for her patients. She recently completed the Mixed Animal Acupuncture Course at Chi University with the goal of providing integrative treatment options for animals with injuries, chronic pain and osteoarthritis.

She was an active volunteer at the Orcutt schools her daughters attended, serving in various PTA roles through the years. Dr. Helen also teaches courses to the veterinary technology students at Hancock College in Veterinary Medical Nursing as well as Clinical Pathology and Microbiology.
